Swimming pools are fantastic fun for the whole family, on a hot summer’s day I can think of nothing better than relaxing in a swimming pool (with a nice cold beer of course).

In today’s economy the consumer can really benefit from buying an above or below ground pool or even a portable swimming pool because most suppliers are crying out for customers. If you're in a financial position to purchase a swimming pool, now is the right time to do so.

Different Types of Swimming Pools

Okay so now that I have covered the basics, let’s take a look at the different types of swimming pools available on the market today.

In Ground Pools – The most common but also the most expensive type of swimming pool you can buy, the main advantages to an in ground pools are the size can be endless and they increase your property value. However the ongoing maintenance costs will be more expensive compared to other pool types.

Above Ground Pools – These are swimming pools that are installed above the ground, if your looking for a big sized swimming pool but don’t want the hassle of contractors digging up your yard then an above ground pool is the best option.

Portable Swimming Pools – Portable swimming pools (sometimes referred to as paddling pools or kiddie pools) are a lot smaller in size and can be filled and drained easily, the size of portable swimming pools are generally smaller in length and height compared to other pool types.

Jacuzzi's / Hot Tubs - Jacuzzi's are becoming more affordable then ever before, if you are investing in a swimming pool it's a good time to invest in a hot tub at the same time. Jacuzzi's can help increase your real estate value, but of course the main reason for buying is to relax.

Swimming Pool Accessories

Of course there are many types of accessories available and depending on which type of swimming pool you own (or choose to buy) depends on which accessory is right for your pool:

Swimming Pool Liners - if you have an inground or above ground pool then you will need to replace the pool liner ever 10 years or so.

Swimming Pool Cleaners – Advances in technology make pool cleaning easier than you ever thought possible. You can now purchase an automatic pool cleaner (robot) that requires minimal setup for around $300. Pool cleaners are recommended for in ground and above ground pools, and is a regular part of pool maintenance.

Swimming Pool Steps – If you have an in-ground pool and require an extra set of steps then your in luck, most US suppliers sell pool steps for around $400

Swimming Pool Lights – If you want to use your swimming pool at night, then a set of pool lights can be purchased for around $100

Swimming Pool Chemicals - Chlorine, Bromine, pH balance? Find out which chemicals you need to help keep your pool environment clean and safe from germs, parasites, algae and more.

Saltwater Generators – if you are tired of adding chemicals to your in ground or above ground pool just purchase a salt water generator, these neat devices automatically generate the necessary chemicals into your pool so you don't have to. If used properly a saltwater swimming pool can save you money compared to a chlorine pool.

Swimming Pool Alarms – If you have young children or animals, then I recommend purchasing a pool alarm, these nifty devices sit below the water line and detect objects that weigh 15lbs or more in the pool, once it detects an object in the pool it sounds a warning signal.

Swimming Pool Heaters – There are a few types of pool heaters, the most common are the electric heaters, but today you can purchase propane or natural gas heaters or if you have the space a solar panel.

Swimming Pool Pumps – The heart of an above ground or in ground pool, without a motor the swimming pool could not stay clean. Pumps start at around $200

Swimming Pool Filters – Of course all inground and above ground pools require filtering out the dirt and debris that land in the pool and choosing the correc filter is very important.

Swimming Pool Covers/Solar Covers – If you are looking for an inexpensive way to heat your pool and keep debris out, then a solar cover is just the ticket. Swimming Pool Fountains – A really cool feature for swimming pools, portable fountains can make a nice feature of your pool whilst relaxing you at the same time.

Swimming pool showers – Need to quickly rinse off the pool water? Then install a small shower in your yard, these showers start from around $50 and go all the way upto $1,000.
